Parts with paint.



1 hour in Acid sulfuric (H2SO4) to remove paint, oil , grease and other contamination


After part clean.

Imersion in acid chlorydric (HCL) 66% per 30 minutes to remove all corrosion and rusty.

After process, clean with water and neutralize with NaOH.

The seat that is rusted through is not the original Cub seat. Since you have the correct one that came from Miami, I'd use it. If you're also asking about the rear rim, I think you need to take the tire off so you can evaluate it better.

The rust can be cleaned up and pin holes repaired. Epoxy to fill in rough areas. Also may be able to find an inner tube liner - they are/were used in large truck rims between the inner tube and the rim.

I know they make half boots for a 24" rim because a guy on another tractor forum I'm on got some for his Yanmar. Our older Yanmars also have 24" rims. Wait these were to protect his intertubes from outside punctures cause his tires were getting really bad. Not necessarily to protect the tire from the rough rim... probably disregard what I said. I do remember he bought them at Grainger supply

The ones I discussed are to protect the inner tube from the rim. Had them on a pickup I owned. Inner tube liners, tire flap liners. They make a tube liner for tractors.

I'm amazed at your chemical process. It really turns those rusty parts into looking new again.

Wow - I've been down with the virus (yeah, THAT virus - better now) for the whole month of September and wasn't looking at the Forum at all. Looks like I missed quite a bit! Stephane - that is an awesome task and great job you are doing on your "newest" Cub! I spent the morning looking at all eleven pages of your posts. Super restoration job. I'll be watching for more updates with great interest!
