R.O.C.K Restoration Project

Rocky has a health care appointment in CO this weekend. I want to give him some company on the trip so I will be hauling 2 tractors.

I have a 7' X 18' trailer with a 2 foot dove tail. Any suggestions on how I should I safely load them?

With rear weights on the project tractor, I think you could load it either direction and have good tongue weight. Center the second over the wheels, or in front of the dovetail and make sure both are strapped/chained down well. If the front of the truck feels light you can always reposition. See you tomorrow.

Rocky's transmission surgery went well this weekend at the Rocky Mountain Cub Fest. It happened so fast that if it were not for someones "encouragement" to keep taking pictures, I would not be able to share this experience with you all.....thanks Dale!

Doc recommended he shed a few extra pounds before surgery...

performing the rear section split,

2 over sized bolts holding the left side final were removed.

and then this. Now this, was worth the trip alone: We removed the right side retainer first, being extremely careful not to bend or ding any shims, then, using a brass drift, tapped the left retainer out from the inside :worthy: :worthy: :worthy:

i was in  and awe and missed the next 10 minutes of surgery.

Next thing I knew, Rocky was heli-coiled back to 3/8" and ready for new bearings,

All while 3 or 4 other projects were going on

at the same time.

This was my first Cub Fest and it did not disappoint.

:hattip: to the originator(s) of these events, and a special thanks to Bob and Sue McCarty for their warm hospitality!

Looks like the Cub fest was productive congrats on the work done:!: 8) , working on a freshly painted Cub makes the work amazingly enjoyable :tractor:

Tim, I'm glad I got to meet you. Maybe someday we can get you to Ohio.
I think he has been infected with the disease so there is no turning back!! Stan

Infected so bad that I'm already looking at a replacement for Rocky!

Might just be a OH Cub fest candidate, or...a trip to the
:dog:

Tim, Tim Talleur (tst) makes a decal overlay that covers all of the SN plate but the 1800 and SN. Makes them look almost new again.

Tim is referring to the dot that is just to the left of the bottom rivet of the serial plate, not the plate itself.

Was it stamped into the casting or something inserted into a drilled hole?

Yea, sorry about the confusion Glen. I should have cropped the picture, my bad! The small circle in the cast engine block is what I am referring to. First glance I thought it was a dowel and wondered how is the engine going to separate from the bolster with that in there? duh

Frank in NE inspected the bolt hole beneath it this past weekend and said it looked like there was a small crack in there. Maybe he can elaborate.

I will remove the bolt tomorrow and try to photograph and post any findings.

After taking Rocky apart and inspection, we have determined that a new block and front bolster are in order. I have a front bolster replacement.

In evaluating our options for a block replacement, I learned that JP Tractor Salvage has blocks for sale that have been magna-flux and boiled for $250. For $475 you can get a block with new 0.04" piston kit. This seems to be a fair price as rebuilding one from scratch will run $1,000-1,300.00.

Has anyone had experience with these engine blocks?
