Proper Oil Filter for my 1949 Farmall Cub

I had similar issues with the clearance rack frams from tsc. I ended up buying new filters from the dealer. Less than $10 each and they fit. I think they were purolator brand and they came with the gasket. For the copper washer...banjo washer from any parts store...

Everyone - This is a wonderful forum for getting advice and help so thank you all. As a new person to the forum I am having a little trouble following the threads and responding to the right person at the right place. Thanks for your help and patience.

Is this what your oil filter stud looks like?

Don - My barn & tractor are about 15 miles away so I cannot be sure. I will take a picture and post tomorrow. It appears that my Cub oil filter is the sam as the A and Super A for some reason.

Is anyone else thinking what I am thinking?

Not sure what you all are saying. My bolt looks like that but the shaft is 1/2" in diameter. If you all are thinking that I have a bolt made for an A or Super A - all I can say is that the bolt and lid were there when I got the tractor over 25 years ago. I wonder if IH/Farmall installed it that way from the factory 70 years ago?

51153 is good for a CUB Wix filter.
Hope no one is thinking about a Farmall A...

It is for a Farmall Cub!

Your Baldwin is a different number than the usual for a Cub. At least by this list which agrees with the Usual Wix.

Sure wish we were together looking at your tractor with one of my bolts to try on your Wix filter...Then compare to your bolt. That should answer a good part of what's goin on.

But something is odd with your bolt it seems.
Keep a close eye on your oil pressure till you get it figured out.

So, as promised, I am trying to show what bolt I have and filters.
1. The top filter is the WIX Filter that I got from Steiner that does not work. The ID is a little less than 7/16" and my bolt is 1/2". I suppose I could enlarge the opening with a round chisel but should not have to.
2. The middle picture is my bolt showing 1/2 " diameter (note the picture is not taken directly above).
3. The bottom picture is the bolt in the Car Quest filter with a good fit.

A couple more pictures:
1. The top one shows my bolt with homemade filter gasket washer. Do you think this will work?
2. The next one shows the new governor spring I got from Steiner beside the old one. I was advised by someone here to replace the spring while I have easy access. The new one is significantly larger but I got it on and it is stronger. How will this affect the tractor? Also, is there any other servicing I should do to the governor while I am at it?
Thanks all!

Hi,
Just wondered, what does the hole in the other end of the Steiner oil filter measure.
If it is the same, it is defective. It might have 2 ends with the small hole, not sure, you didn't show a pic of both ends of it.

The holes in the Fleetguard oil filter that I bought at a Case IH dealer measure .506", and .440".

It looks like the right bolt in your pic.
The gasket might work, you can try it and see.

The governor spring will probably work the same as intended, but I've never bought one from them.
The original one would have had a lot of stretching in years of use.
The governor doesn't need any servicing, except you could lube the linkage arm pivot, on top of the governor. Try to work oil into both ends of the pivot. They get dry and stuck sometimes from no lube. :)
