The groundhogs are coming on fast & furious now. The young ones are out establishing their territories. One yesterday evening and one this morning. This seems to be an up cycle year for rabbits, too.
 
Son shot one of two yesterday.

Something had been eathing neighbor's beans and my tomatoes. Thought it was and seen rabbits in lawn. Opossum caught in neighbor's garden.
 
I’ve got one under my barn I’ve been trying to trap for about a week now. This one isn’t going for it and he doesn’t stay out in the open long enough for me to draw a bead on him.
Damned thing will crack my concrete slab in the barn if he keeps digging. Might have e to wait until dark and put a exhaust hose down the hole and wait at the hole if he runs out.
Also we have rabbits this year too, first time in years.
 
Life expectancy on the Young farm for woodchucks is very limited. Between the .22, .222 and conibear trap, they just don't seem to live very long...
 
The smoke sticks work good if you can use them,---- another thing that works is, With 2 guys, dump several buckets of water down the holes and blast them when they come runnin out! ----IF they are in there they will come out!---trust me! ---they hate water!

YUP the giant destroyer!---They work super---I used them in the past for ground living varmints. they will take out everything in the burrow.
 
The problem we have at our farm is that they have burrowed under the slab for our cabin. Obviously, I want to get the ground hog out, so I can try to repair the damage and not have the slab crack. But if I use something like this, will the ground hog die in place, under the cabin, and rot and stink? Or do they run out?
 
I have used smokers, you never know if they are dead, years ago used to soak paper towels with carbon tetra chloride and put it in the hole. It is no longer available, fumes were heavier than air and would displace oxygen in tunnel. when I shot one and see dead it
I know it will no longer be a problem.

That’s the scenario I have with my barn.
I had shot one years back that made it back under the barn slab and died there. The stink lasted a couple weeks. I don’t care to repeat that.
That’s why I try my best to live trap them and relocate them. Poison Smoke under a building I work in doesn’t sound like an option.
If I could smoke them out to be shot might work if they don’t run back in.
 
I have a lady friend who eats racoon and squirrel, and said she'd e happy to TRY ground hog!! Seems like as fat as they are, they'd be pretty greasy! :?

That’s what I’d think. Despite the trouble they sometimes cause I like raccoons but have no love for squirrels. I can tell you first hand that they do taste like chicken, really. ;)
