Number 1 should never be a option (Bait the groundhog into a trap, catch it, and then release it in a wooded area five miles away from your home.)!
Sure the trapping part is fine, but, SHOOT IT!!!!
Dont relocate your problem to become someone elses problem!!!!
The trap and relocate is a common belief of do good city dwellers. They almost always say to "take it out in the country and let it go"! NO, DONT DO IT!
Country folks have enough problem animals as it is, we dont need imported orphans!!!
So remember, trap, SHOOT (and kill), then release those pesky varmints!
