Dale Finch
501 Club
I have 4 '55 Cubs that are used to mow our property ( approx 8 acres of our 20). As you probably know, they have the 11-bar grill with the welded-wire screen behind it. When the weather is dry, cut grass blows all around and goes through that 1/4" screen, and packs into the radiator, requiring removal of the grill to allow cleaning. To avoid that hassle, I decided to add an easily cleanable/removable exterior screen, and it only took me about 1 hour to make all four out of available materials.
Cheap fiberglass screen material I had:

Free paint stirrer, turned so logo was on unseen side!

After stapling, drove tips of staples that protrude down into wood so they wouldn't scratch the paint:

Using "baby" bungees, I hooked one hook through the screen and around the stir stick, and the other on the Coil Bracket:

With fewer options on the left side, I hooked the bungee to the carb intake hose clamp:

I've mowed for several hours now, and all I had to do was sweep the grass off the screen with a small broom!
