Removing main jet Zenith carb

My 1965 Cub Lo-boy has had a skip in it, seems a bit more noticeable when it has been running for 30 minutes or so. I have good fuel flow, sediment bowl screen and carb inlet screens are clean. Good spark from coil. I have fully loosened the main jet and can wiggle it with a pick but haven't had any luck extracting it from the hole. Is there a trick anyone uses? I don't really want to pull the carb off if I can help it. Thanks.

I like to remove the tune up port 1/8 plug on intake and put a vacuum gage on it. A steady needle with 18 to 21 inches is pretty good. If the the needle is not that way then you can tell what wrong from the needle position and reaction. Take the guessing out of the diagnostics.
