Finally, some rain…

Got 3 inches of rain yesterday and last night. Hopefully, our multi-month drought has been broken. This has been the hottest, driest Summer that I can remember. Not good for gardening.

Been dry here also. But not as bad as last summer was. We did get a good rain yesterday with chance of more to come.

Currently getting a bit of rain, about 3/10th inch at the acreage. Currently about 2 inches below normal for the month of August. Previous 2 years drought is slowly creeping back.

Bit of rain, then 10 days until the next 1/2" rain. Go to acreage after the rain and the ground would be dry.

August temperatures have swung back and forth from miserable heat/humidity to slightly below normal.

Got some more rain yesterday. Definitely good for this time of year. Maybe this year I can get my plowing done and cover crop planted at a good time

Even though the garden isn’t done yet, enough of it is cleaned up that I’ll start planting my cover crop here soon. Crimson clover.

I started using crimson clover last year and will continue to use it. But I’ll continue to plant a small patch of greens. To me it’s just a cover crop, but my wife likes greens as well as some friends

Started to rain a little here off and on---too late to help garden any! Well maybe the sweet taters and canners! Big ole canners still hangin in there but they can take a lot of heat and dry weather and still make decent crop.
Been trying to mow off as much of the garden as I can. --- cutoff stuff keeps growing back!
Afraid this winter will be an azz kicker! Hope I am wrong!!

Currently in a moderate drought. No rain in two weeks.

Planted two dwarf cherry trees today. Soil dry down to a foot, maybe more. Watered the newly planted trees and two hazelnut trees planted this spring. No rain tonight, will have to start watering the nursery trees.

The two streams on the front of the acreage are barely flowing. Going to make pumping water into the tote slow and difficult.

Lower pasture area has been browsed almost bare by the cattle. Upper pasture area still has sufficient grass for another week or two.

First rain in close to one month. 2 1/2" rain in last two days at acreage. Nice slow soaking in rain.

Still misting and a few sprinkles. Poured part of the patio last Friday. Had been sprinkling water on the fresh cement pour 4 or 4 times a day. Won't have too again.

got .5 here today. dont need any now that everything is dead. Gotta fix tile and prefer it be dry for that. Have 2,000 feet to take old stuff out and put new in. Slow hard job workin by myself!

Missouri drought monitor shows abnormally dry for this area. I'm thinking that locally we are in a moderate to severe drought. Nothing forecast for the next 10 days.

The low water crossing stream that I draw water for the newly planted trees. I can draw down the pool when I suck out 40 gallons of water. The other low water crossing is also just a trickle.

I'm watering the nut tree orchard twice a week.

For us it was a wet summer. Mostly not excessive but I never watered the garden until early September. Since then, dry. I've been watering the beans, carrots and parsnips but everything else is done. Even the flowers have mostly given up. A few leaves are just beginning to turn. Vern

Here in north central Connecticut, we've only had 3/4" of rain since August 28th.
A local weather guy posted this map on his FB page.Rainfall September 2024.jpg

Down here in the westernmost county in Maryland, we are in the extreme drought category, despite the rain we got from the remnants of Helene.

Everyone likes nice weather, but we are back in the extreme drought category. Pretty unusual for the Eastern third of the country. Only two cuttings of hay this Summer. Corn and bean success was very low.
