Cub hood mount question

Hi,
Good that you fixed the front axle. People have said on here that it affects the way the Cub steers when the vertical spindle shafts are angled back instead of ahead.
I've been sleeping good. :)

So...this is a really small sample size, but it seems to steer harder in the correct position. It could be in my head; it's a minimal difference. I'm sure there's a reason they designed it the way they did. I'm going to take a look at my A and my SM (it has an IH wide front) and see if they're raked or neutral.

The tire pressure can make a difference in how easy a Cub steers.
Below is the tire inflation table from the 1965 Cub operator's manual.
32 psi works good. You probably need tires that are in good condition for the higher pressures.

Below is the table for the rear tires. 12 psi works good if you have no load on the rear of the Cub.

I'm running 25 PSI in the front, pretty sure the manual calls for 20. I've always run the fronts higher; you are correct, it makes them easier to turn.

I'm running the called for 12 PSI in the back. Too much pressure back there is driver abuse. :p

In the world of front-end alignment, the angle of the shaft is the caster angle. You will find a slight positive angle on most (every?) tractor wide front. The main effects of this are better directional stability and giving the steering a tendency to self-return to straight ahead. On tricycle tractors, the vertical shaft out of the steering gear typically is vertical with no caster angle built in. The bolsters are typically built with some offset to the spindles, putting the tire contact patch behind the centerline of the steering gear output. This has the same effect as the caster angle of a wide front.
