I made mention to a few friends I didn't know how pretty brown grass looked. For the last few years snow hasn't stayed on the ground for more than a few days and was gone.
Thursday I was inside on the 'puter looking up parts for a project tractor. It was 53º and they were calling for a chance of T-Storms. I heard a clap of thunder, then what sounded like a heavy downpour on the roof. Headed out to do the feeding and saw this. I picked up a piece and mashed it with my fingers, sure glad of that, it was large enough it could have done some damage, if it was normal hail.
I plan to get some onion and shallot seeds started in the next few days. For some reason onion sets I've purchased the last few years have not done well. Not my first rodeo, I've been planting them the same way for 30 some years but always did well before. It's been 5-6 years since I've started them from seeds, just easier to plant from starts for me.
Cabbage, peppers, brussels sprouts, and some buttercrunch lettuce will be started mid-March since they can take a cold spell and survive. Tomatoes & squash will be later mid-April to get well past the frost date with a target date to set out around Memorial Day. Forecasters are predicting a cool late Spring, so no used to get excited, they won't grow much until the ground gets up around 70º anyway.
