Those stickers also normally list maximum axle weights for both axles. (They frequently total to more than the GVW. So, you can't max both at the same time.) Even if the load in this picture is under the GVW, it is a safe bet the rear axle weight is way over. Look at the front of the truck. It looks like the front axle has less weight on it that it would with an empty truck. In other words, the center of the load is actually BEHIND the rear axle. Combined with the height of the load, centered well above the sides of the box, this load is obviously unsafe whether it is over the GVW or not.You guys haven't said if you have looked at the GVW plate, or sticker on the pickup you have, to see what the manufacturer says is the maximum gross weight for the pickup.

We used to haul a pair of cubs around town on a landscaping trailer for cultivating tobacco. Too slow to take on the road. The trailer was too short to put the cubs on single file because the large sweeps on the rear took up too much space. The first cub would go up into the front corner and the second cub would be diagonally behind it on the rear. Had to put the front tire between the rear sweeps of the other one without bashing the grill into it. Had to use wooden planks over the rear gate because the diamond metal framework was too weak and the cultivator points could get caught in 'em. Rev up the engine and get it up the trailer in one quick motion, if you stopped or went slow you'd risk getting a tooth caught and stalling the engine.View attachment 75747

I grew up around several home-built flatbed trailers built out of heavy 2" oak boards bolted to a mobile home axle. If you needed to load a tractor on it, you got a running start and hoped the front wheels would bob the trailer down enough to allow the tractor to climb on. I mentioned the 1000 gallon tank behind the pickup. The fertilizer dealer we dealt with had their truck scales completely above the grade of the yard around their warehouse. That meant climbing a fairly steep incline to get on the scales. Once I was filled up with nitrogen, I would have to back up way back past the scales, then get a RUNNING START to make it up onto the scales. It was always an adventure. I was young and dumb, but did have sense enough to keep it under 30 on the way home.

Haha. I drove those babys slow. Because slow is steady and steady is fast. It was mostly flat paved roads. That area of Connecticut isn't a dirt road hellscape like some other places.You guys are lucky to still be around. LOL
