I've seen some super Ms with a hand clutch along with a foot clutch, what is the reason for the hand clutch? Is there a possibility of upgrading to add a hand clutch
Thanks
Mike

Re: Super M hand clutch?
It gives you sort-of live PTO. The hand clutch disengages at the final drive pinion shaft, keeping the transmission countershaft turning. It was an aftermarket attachment made by M&W, can be added to any M or Super M.

Re: Super M hand clutch?
Note Jim says that it keeps the countershaft turning. You do not change gears with the hand clutch because of this. It also would keep the hydraulic pump running. I never drove a Farmall so equipped. This is the same set up as used in the AC W45 if you have ever been around one of them. It was handy for running one of those, to me, nasty round balers AC built in the 1950's. I would have liked one when running that PTO baler (green with yaller [not a typo] wheels) dad had. Vern

Ahha! We did have an AC WD-45 when I was a teenager. Finally figured out the reason for the "double" clutch.
Thanks

Re: Super M hand clutch?
Have two WD Allis Chalmers with the PTO hand clutch and my Dad had a John Deere with the PTO hand clutch. Handy as heck. You can get the tractor attachment up to speed before letting out the foot clutch to start the tractor moving. Need to stop the tractor's forward motion to let the attachment catch up, depress the foot clutch.
I have an excuse. CRS.
