I purchased two non running cub cadets a few years back. A 70 and a 100 from the orginal owners son. The 70 was missing a condenser on the points. It has a newer replacement 8hp Koehler engine. It runs like new. Ok my point is the 100 and it has the creeper in it so I installed the tiller on it after I got it running. This engine was very noisy so tilling the garden twice a year it may last. Well it died. It wouldn't turn over. We checked out the whole machine for the engine binding when it tried to start. We ended up at the starter/generator the rear bushing wore out. Now the engine is quiet and sounds perfect.
Make sure you service the s/g with some oil and grease.

Some of these s/g's have the oilite rear sleeve bearings. They need to be lubed. Some have ball bearings at both ends. The rear sleeve bearing has a ball bearing at the pulley end.
