Don't think I'd want to run this in the Mo. Hills. Apparently they were made for spraying or fumigating corn in idaho.

John, Saw one like that in Cleveland, Tenn. today, really odd though it had a solid deck all the way around the upper area. It was powered by bottled propane! and had a BBQ grill type tank sitting up next to the carb. Final drives looked like a huge bicycle chain....very interesting. Will be up for auction next weekend. Big equipment auction up there.
I bought an old tractor all dusty and worn,
knew nothing about her just the year she was born
I washed her and greased her and painted her red
Now she lives happily right here in my shed.

Kodiak,
What you saw may have been even taller. The platform makes it sound like a machine made for de-tasseling seed corn. They were tall enough to drive in corn after it had begun to tassel, and (usually) school kids would ride on the platform, pulling the tassels from the female corn. The tassels were left on the male corn which was only about every third or fourth row.
That's how they used to produce hybrid seed. I don't know how they do it now.
