Dish network
My brother in law who live 200 miles away called. Seems he has dish network and all the major channels are cut off. ABC, NBC,CBS and Fox. He wants me to tell him what to do. Staten Island is part of NYC. I get 21 tv channels off the air with rabbit ears. I have no idea about that which Joe is asking. Can any one shed light on this for me.
Thanks
Bill
Thanks

When I was connected to the dish I installed an antenna on the roof to get local channels. I didn't want to pay the extra $5.00 a month for something I can get for free.
I am no longer hooked to cable or satallite. Couldn't see spending $500- a year to watch two channels. Read in yesterdays paper that the cable bills are going up as much as $5.00 a month. Bringing the average cable bill in this area to $55.?? a month. Now that's $660.00 a year.
I really don't know what the situtiation with your brother in-law is.

My Dish network is working today. Maybe he subscribed to the NBC CBS etc Super stations and got cut off from them. I had that happen to me with the analog C-band 10foot dish. If you can get CBS NBC FOX etc on a antenna they (the networks) want let you have them. A antenna is the way to go for HDTV.

Tell him to unplug it for a min and try that maybe it just needs to be reset.
I have direct TV it costs me $70.00 a month I think $30.00 would be better and I do not get any premium channels either its just the tivo $10.00 a month extra and 2 aditional rec for the kids is another $10.00 get rid of them and it drops to $50.00 W/ taxes. JON

unplugging then plugging back in very good idea as that forces the dish receiver to reset itself and reacquire the signal. I am not sure how to do it but it is possible to measure signal strength from the main TV. The snow might be interfering with the dish somehow. Also here in NE when we have a storm to the south (our dish points south) no TV.
I hope this helps.
Sorry about that storm we in the midwest sent you guys.

Rain will cut Dish Network off. So will snow on the dish are a limb getting in the way from the weight of snow. If you call them the first thing they will tell you to do is unplug it a while. If you call and cannot understand there language ask for someone else. Most ot the tech's are off shore and sure don't speak so I can understand them. I thought he had lost only the networks.

Scripps Howard News Service. 2 Dec 06.
"A federal judge last month ordered Dish to stop providing all distant network feeds by Friday."
Court rulling against Dish Network. Networks (Fox, CBS, NBC, and ABC) claimed in a lawsuit that satellite-tv provider routinely provided distant network signals to households that could get local channels - a violation of federal law.

Hey Folks,
At the risk of hijacking this thread, I have a question about Dish Network Satellite Internet service. Does anyone subscribe to it?...cost?...how are your results? I'm rural and wife is pulling her hair out (and mine ) trying to run her Ebay business with our dial-up. Satellite is our only option. No DSL or Cable options. We have directv for our tv right now but would scrap in a minute if the deal was good.

I could not tell you but North Stanly TV installed my Dish Network. He had Starband internet first. But when I was there he had DSL. Went back the other day and he has Starband again. He sales the starband but not the DSl he had. It's through the local phone company here.

Hi Cris,
I can tell you a little,
Hughes net formerly Dway owned by direct tv. Is what I have and I would never never never do it again. It is costing me $80.00 a month 16 month contract. About 400.00 to start after the rebates. I bought mine. They do have a plan where you rent and its about $60.00 a month I think but not to fast. I like you were trying to speed up ebay and paypal well paypal did not speed up they have to many security certificates I guess and it takes time to do anything even at 1250mbps.
There is another called wiled blue I would check them out. They were going to put another sat up this fall for more to jion in the north east. do a search. But I will tell you what Sometimes its better for me to go to dial up a 37666 than to try the broad band specially at night when everybody is on it slows down to 400mps and you just sit there. At least thats how hughes works and I have the business one newest equip and am supposed to get up to 1500mps you see I put up to that's there catch.

I found out last week that my step son and his gal are in the process of having Dish satellite installed at their new place which is 25 miles directly west of me in Newark, OH. They will pay 110.00 per month for their tv and internet. I believe they will have the premium channels and Tivo.....Kids! I think equipment cost is 200.00 with a 100.00 rebate... I'm going to see how their setup works,..speed, reliability...and then make a choice. "Let them be the Guinea Pigs" I'll post with my (their) results afterward!
