Problems after startup
Ok to start off this little project started off to replace the front timing cover due to broken fan pulley ear broken. After a cracked crank pulley I ordered new gaskets, pulley, front cover, and got it all back together.. I left the front end off and cranked that tractor to test before fully assembling everything. Tractor started up but when throttle is advanced even the slightest the tractor dies. Idle seems fine, and can advance throttle by pushing arm that connects rock shaft to carburetor. Anyone ever had the same issue?

Re: Problems after startup
It sounds like a plugged carb main jet. If your tractor has the IH carb, it’s the hex plug on the side. If your carb is a Zenith, the jet is behind the plug, lower rear of the carb. Use a soft wire to dislodge any blockage, then flush with carb cleaner.

Re: Problems after startup
I think you said you had proper response when manually operating the gov/carb rod?
If you still have the front end open, check for any binding or stiffness along the entire linkage... throttle to carb.
Liberally spray the governor lever where the throttle rod attached. It doesn't take much friction there to cause problems.
Also check for slop where the rockshaft enters the left side of the governor...the tiny woodruff key or the slot can wear, causing a lag in the governor response.
Finally, check the gov-to-carb rod length per the manual.

If you still have the radiator and fan shroud off, now would be a good time to lubricate the governor and replace the governor spring.
