Delco setup

Postby xrcr » Tue Apr 12, 2022 6:11 am

Anybody have pictures of their Delco alternator setup with and or without the hood on? The 50 I bought several years ago had it put on but the hood was bent out to clear. I know I could go mini or get a generator like original or crank it since the mag works but I'm wanting to look into this set up
Thanks for any advice

No pics here but if you google Cub alternator brackets, you can get a few ideas for mounts that will position it higher and pull it in tighter.

My Cubs doesn’t have any gen or alt. They are on 12 volt. Even with a distributor, they don’t use that much battery. I charge them a couple times a mowing season
With 12 volts, they normally start right up

You can also re-clock the alternator to gain some additional space. Pics of my 57 LoBoy with a Delco 10si alternator done by PO:

:hattip: It works well, just don't forget to turn off the exciter wire circuit when finished. One day I'm planning to replace the switch with a diode or light to prevent discharging the battery when I forget!!!

Here is an older discussion that has a picture of how IH made them fit.

Hi,
The 1st pic below shows a Delco alternator on a Cub. It is the factory style alt and brackets.
IH started putting the alt on them during 1975.
The alt is mostly upside down, it pivots at the upper attaching point, and the adjuster with the slot is near the bottom.
IH made a different upper water elbow with an attaching place for the alt.
It has a bottom adjuster bracket also.

The 2nd pic shows the style of mounting that is more commonly seen on here.
The alt is right side up, pivots at the bottom, and has an adjuster with a slot at the top.
The bottom bracket fastens on where the generator bottom bracket fastens on, on the ones I have seen pics of.
The brackets are sold online, I think.

The alt fits with the hood the original shape along the side, as far as I have seen. :)
