getting a jump on next season

Postby Jack » Wed Nov 17, 2021 11:36 am

hello everyone,
my wife and I installed a 20' x 72' greenhouse on our farm this fall. we have a farm market on our property,
and plan on getting a jump on the up coming season,
we laid it out with permanent beds and walkways.
we are going to grow our tomatoes and cucumbers in it
were planning on trellising them. we also start all our seeds here in the 12' x 24' heated greenhouse. after the seedlings go out to the fields we are going to put our lettuce in one side and the other side already has strawberries growing in it.

here are a couple pictures

I have everyone of the poles 2 1/2 ft in the ground. it has wind bracing on all 4 corners, and wind strapping over the cover. so I'm thinking it's not going anywhere
well at least I hope it dont

Looks like you have trees on one side that could help a little. ---- We wanted a small one here but it will never happen.
Anything that you can do to get a head start on the season will get your produce ready before the competition is ready!
We used to have produce early just by starting plants in the house and that is what we still do for a few early cabbage, tomatoes, and eggplants.
Keep the progress reports coming on how it works for you!

My neighbor has 2 "high tunnels", but about half as long, and they've lasted for years here in NC. Of course, we don't get much snow!!

I have had our small greenhouse for two years now and so far it survived the snow we get,

Plastic has to be tight to survive high winds!

Frame has to be held down to the ground!

Jack you have a nice looking set-up, I would like to see more pics of your stand!

Does it have a door for night time protection?

the frame is attached to the ground good and the plastic is secured to the frame with wiggle wire and wind straps, I don't think it will go anywhere.
as for the front of the farm stand, It doesn't have any doors, its wide open.
here a few pictures of the stand

I'm guessing you built both buildings, very nice job. I like the rough cut lumber.

yes I like the rough cut look myself, I enclosed the two refrigerators and put foam board around them, so come summer they might stay somewhat cooler, I had to add a couple cameras in the stand. some people thought it was a take what you want stand instead of a
honor system stand
thanks

Disappointing. But, I’m afraid it’s only going to get worse.

NE central IL is like western KS, flat as a pancake.

Agree with Bob. I like that way you did your stand. I'd shop there if I was closer. :)

There's the operative word. No honor with some people.
