My new garden cub project
I've decided to finally attack this project and see where it takes me. Many years ago I bought an IH tiller at auction designed for the numbered series cubs. Since I like to challenged the limits of the cubs so I know in my mind if it works or don't work, now I can put this to rest once it's done. My goal is to set up a cub that will plow small gardens and then use the tiller too. If I can set up a cub that will do it all without changing attachments, that'll kill 2 birds with 1 stone, hopefully.
I'm using my old mowing cub that's always been a strong runner.
Next I removed the woods mower and installed the Hester disc plow I just bought from Jeff Silvey. I noticed it doesn't have the normal Hester front lifting setup but the IH 152 chain lift. I'm excited about that because the plow fit perfect for me.
Next, I did some work to the IH tiller, fabbed a newer style pto shaft from TSC because the tiller only came with 1/2 a shaft when I bought it. It would've been too expensive making up the missing shaft pieces. I also found some new tines that are real close the the originals. Hopefully they'll work fine, time will tell.
I have the low range unit that I bought from Phil Lenke years ago and I also kept my 3 point hydraulic lift setup for the cub. I'll need to fab some new spacer brackets for the 3 point and the Hester, but that'll be fun. I'll keep things updated as I go. The first thing I need to do is make a new seal plate for the low range unit.
Outside I go the get started,
Rick

Re: My new garden cub project
I know I'll get pro's and con's about what I'm attempting. Please reply with all the negatives and we'll see if you're right or wrong I love a good challenge and have No problem if it doesn't work out, least I'll put this to rest. Been thinking about it for maybe 10 years now. The dyno prooved a good running F-cub can out preform a good running numbered cub, so power shouldn't be the deciding factor.

I will be curious to see how the seal plate looks when it’s all done.

Re: My new garden cub project
I just came in from doing some more on the project. Here's the low range unit and the beginning of the seal plate.
I need to machine this drawing and figure the best way to attach it to the plate to prevent leakage, like rivets, gasket, sealant, etc.
I snapped the new pto unit from TSC onto the cub pto shaft. I fitted the hubcity adapter first. Looks like it snaps on nice and should work great, hopefully.
The Hester slid back another severals inches and attached to the 3point plates I made and should work perfect.
Some of the hydraulics used for the 3 point. I need to fit everything and also give everything a good bath.
Once I get everything fitted and I'm satisfied things will work OK, I'll finish the seal plate and make the heavy duty final spacer, used once the low range unit is installed. Looks like the unit is about 4-3/4" wide so that's what the spacer final mount needs to be. I have the factory brake extension.
More tomorrow.

Was the tiller designed for the numbered series cubs or was the auction designed for the numbered series cubs.

Hmmm...what was Jeff thinking?

Rick, I have seen the work you do. I know this will be another masterpiece from the master himself
I have a vision of a great, new company on the horizon!
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Can we buy stock in that company, those of us with Very Ltd. funds?
Good looking project Rick, can't wait to see it in action.

What could be negative???? There is nowhere to go but forward with such ambition! I love the ingenuity!
I have no real familiarity with the low-range setup on a cub. I thought these get installed between the transmission and the final. Please explain what the additional seal plate is for.
Just out of curiosity, which tines did you go with?

Re: My new garden cub project
Here is the prototype you made for my cub in 2005. Not sure why you would have trouble remembering what you did. It has been in service, both tilling and mowing in unusual circumstances, with the only maintenance on the entire assembly being the oil checked every spring, and oil changed 3 times when it was moved to a different tractor. I always do my mowing and tilling with the tractor that has been most recently refurbished.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

According to the number I could see on the flange after I enlarged the photo, this would be another possibility. T52MSTR
