H only moves in road gear

I have wondered what those brackets were for, thanks for the identification, I'll certainly hang onto them for future reference.
The cool thing here is that the '45 with the stripped gears was my wife's dad's tractor, and the '42 belonged to her uncle (her mother's brother) who lived on a nearby farm. It is possible that during their working lives these tractors occasionally worked side by side. It would be very fitting if we could use some parts, any parts, from the '42 to help fix the '45.

I said cultivator then got to wondering because they didn't look like any mounts I had ever seen. Not that I have seen many but thinking maybe buzz saw or something. Got to looking at google images and found these on an M. A lot of cultivators were made to fit both the H and M. Having said that, that is a lot for an H, most were two rows. Might be good for parade duty to keep the kids back, but I think it would make an H grunt when you dropped them in the ground. Don't know which model cultivator they are but at least now you can identify what they look like should you ever want a set. More than likely they'll find you!

I bet both tractors did work together more than once. Definitely need to use some parts.

I did not find the original picture showing the brackets, but there were 2 versions of rear axle cultivator brackets for an H that I am familiar with, though there may be more. Most of the cultivators for the H and M were made to be lifted by hand and a kit was added to make them a hydraulic lift, at which time the levers were only used for depth control. Some of the brackets consisted of 2 ears, and the end of the cylinder mounted in them just as would be expected. The other type was a square bar mounted to the rear bracket, and the rod in the cylinder actually pushed against that bar. I do not remember how the cylinder on that one was held in place, but it seems like it may have been hollow. I have a manual for our old cultivator that may answer the question when I get around to looking it up.

I finally got all those deck bolts out on the '42. About how much does the deck weigh?

The transmission cover doesn't weigh as much as I thought, but I still don't think I'll be picking it up by myself any time soon. Here is what I found underneath:

These is about a gallon or so of water in the bottom with a thin film of oil floating on top. The rear end gears actually don't look too bad. Of course the rest are a mess.

I haven't made much progress with this project lately, lots of other stuff going on.
But yesterday I spotted an H sitting in a barn with a For Sale sign hanging on it in a nearby town. Heck, if it runs I could just drive it home. Now heaven knows I don't need another tractor, and I'm sure Wife agrees, but I want it awful bad. What is this sickness?

its Oldtractoritis and I have it bad. I have had a few here n there but sold them in time and only had one and have used it and abused it, but the lil JD 790 with a 3cyl yanmar just wasnt soothing that old nostalgia itch. A 48 Ferguson followed me home, then a 49 TE20, then a 50 TO20. Out of the blue a guy offered a trade on old bugeyes... There are 3 FCUBs here, 2 loboys, an AC B and a 140 industrial and 3 Fergusons here now... and yes I still look at CL for more deals. But I do have one TE20 sold
