New numbered cub

Postby toehead » Tue Apr 10, 2018 12:09 pm

Hello, first post here. I have just purchased a numbered 154 with cab and loader. I pick it up on Saturday.

It's got a creeper unit and a 3 point as well.

It seems like it is in decent shape, with some issues to deal with (broken throttle cable, charging issues, general wiring repair, extremely sloppy steering).

I'm looking forward to digging into this thing.

Welcome.

Parts are available. Hamiltonbobs, site advertiser, is a great place. Case/IH and New Holland dealers are another good place. And depending on needed parts, auto parts stores in rural areas stock tune up parts, overhaul parts, and gasket sets.

With one more post you will be able to down load free manuals. Quick links, top left of page.

You will need the operators manual, parts manual, and service manual. You will need all 3 manuals because some of the set ups and repairs are tractor specific,
I have an excuse. CRS.

Thanks all.

I guess the only thing that is concerning after doing some research is it looks like somebody rigged up another breather line from the oil cap into the intake track (perhaps to cover up blowby). That being said, it didn't smoke at all or seem down on power.

Do the 154's also have the other breather hose that goes tot he air cleaner? I've seen conflicting info on the web.

The 154's did not have the breather line, but having it won't hurt.

Ok, cool. All 154s must smoke from the breather at least a little then, since there is nowhere else for the condensation to go.

Even a fresh engine does move a little air through the breather. When the air movement turns into a fog, then some maintenance is in the future.
Fog that sticks to the frame and collects grass during an hour of mowing is a good indicator that a rebuild is needed.

I haven't gotten a chance to test it running with the cap off, but will see when I pick it up Saturday.

I'll probably try to add a breather system from an earlier cub to improve it. Hopefully the blowby isn't too severe. If it is, i'll run it until I have time to do a rebuild.
