new motor, no oil pressure
I have searched old posts, with no answer. Rebuilt engine, std bearings, all oil galley plugs in place. Primed pump and can watch oil flow out of galley hole in filter housing. Not coming out with pressure. Nothing shows on guage, worked before, but will replace with new. My concern is in the past year I put in new paper gasket behind oil pump while I was replacing clutch. This gasket was paper thin (CNH). I used the new gasket in rebuild kit which was thicker, not (CNH). Before I resplit tractor, do any of you think this could be the cause of no oil pressure?

Re: new motor, no oil pressure
Yes. A thicker gasket can let the oil leak by the pump gears, resulting in low or no pressure.

Oil pressure regulator valve in place? Since oil is flowing, most likely cause is the thicker gasket.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Re: new motor, no oil pressure
When you first start your Cub, it takes a few seconds for the gauge to show pressure. Try it again and let it run for about 10 seconds. It's scary but you know you have flow. It won't show pressure until the filter canister is full of oil.

Re: new motor, no oil pressure
the thicker gasket has caused this many times, the cheaper after market gasket sets have issues with that and more I have found, I only use victor/mahle or fel pro gaskets that are good quality

PRV valve in place, have tried without also. Has run for minute or more no pressure on guage. This was steiner kit, I have ordered new guage and CNH gasket, I guess I will resplit and change gasket and update back. Yhank you.

Re: new motor, no oil pressure
Try this….there is a small Allen screw plug located right next to the oil filter cover. Remove that plug (screw) and squirt 8 or 10 pumps from an oil can….replace the plug and try starting.
Like Ricky Racer said it will take about 10 seconds until the oil filter cavity gets filled with oil until pressure will register on the gauge.
I hope that works for you…

Re: new motor, no oil pressure
You might as well split the tractor and be done with it. You’re not the first to be bitten by the aftermarket, much too thick gasket. The pump will move the oil but it can’t make pressure.

Re: new motor, no oil pressure
I had the galley plug by oil filter removed, this is how I primed system Will split again and change pump gasket with CNH gasket and report back. Should have parts by mid week I hope.

Re: new motor, no oil pressure
Any chance when the engine was overhauled that the plug for the oil galley behind cam gear in front of block was left out?

Re: new motor, no oil pressure
machine shop did remove, I did replace. All plugs accounted for. I'm sure its the thicker gasket behind pump. I will report back findings when I receive parts and fix.

Re: new motor, no oil pressure
Even if the gasket isn’t causing the pressure loss, it still needs to be corrected. Excessive clearance in the oil pump will increase the chances to lose prime as well as decreased pressure.

Re: new motor, no oil pressure
Update, split tractor and swapped oil pump gasket with CNH gasket. The aftermarket gasket wasnt all that thick, but the fix worked, instant oil pressure. Hard to imagine that liitle difference would cause this issue. hopefully this helps someone else in the future. Use the CNH gasket!
