Hey guys....I used to be on the forum many, many years ago. I owned 6 or 7 different Cubs over 15 years or so and used them quite extensively on my small 30 acres. I used them to plow my driveway, mow field, plow and disk my food plots, etc. Loved them...but I found that there were just too many little things about them that made them impractical and not very universal...PTO shaft, no 3 point, underpowered.
Sold my last Cub 5 years ago and have been looking for a JD 40, 420, or 430 to replace it with since then. Tough to find in my neck of the woods in New England. Tractors prices fairly were generally in not very good shape. The nice ones were always 6 hours away...or priced ridiculously. Finally found this nice 1953 about an hour and a half away. It feels a lot like a Cub with the offset hood...just with a little more HP and a 3 point hitch. Looking forward to going through it and putting her to work. The tin is mostly all straight...might even do a restoration with my 11 year old son at some point.
Just thought I'd say hello and share.

Wow! That is a really nice straight looking 40! The rubber looks good and the wheel weights are a big plus! Does it run as good as it looks?

Thanks Don. I always loved this forum. I do miss my Cubs. Maybe someday in the future I'll pick one up to mess around with again.

Thanks Ricky. Yes, very clean and solid. The lights aren't original. And somebody did a 12 volt conversion. I've only had it for a week now, but it seems to start rip up with a little choke. Runs good. PTO works great and 3 point works good. No major leaks. Tires hold air. No noise in the tranny.
It has the spin out rear wheels, and as you said the front and rear weights.
Going to find a set of 5' discs for it and hopefully a little 4' flail mower and 4' rototiller.
