Replaced dead battery. Now lights stay on
Need help. Battery died. Replaced with new battery. Lights came on immediately when battery was connected. Light switch in off position. This did not happen before old battery died. I cant leave battery connected. Its a 26r. Why is this happening with new battery. Is it the batterys polarity?

It's not the battery's fault. Most likely bad light switch.

Brand new light switch. Plus, this problem didnt exist before the old battery died. Puzzling.

You didn't have ANY wire disconnected other than the battery cables while you changed batteries?

Tractor was parked from previous week use. Went to use tractor week later, battery was dead. And battery was old. Removed old battery, installed new battery. At the moment of connecting battery cables lights come on while light switch was off. Weird problem.

The probable sequence is that the switch failed and ran the old battery down. It should be easy to test the switch.

My thoughts are in line with Jim. This should an ah-ha moment, instead of a mystery, now you know why your battery was suddenly dead.

And I was thinking the same thing as both of y'all.
See if switch has continuity in the "OFF" position. Problem found on both fronts.
