Dish soap will help it go on but after a day or 2 the soap will help it to stay on. Bicycle shop showed me that trick. That is how they put grips on the overpriced "my bike is cooler than your bike" bikes they sell.

Thanks, I will try the dish soap. I did drill it out a little bigger, now I'll just wait for warmer weather to put it on. Probably Spring, as it snowed 6 inches here already...

I agree, put it in some very warm water to soften it enough so it will stretch without splitting (assuming it really is the correct knob!) The new one I put on my F-Cub was difficult, but that worked. Good luck!

I ran in to the same issue. Was advised by Bob to heat the knob in warm water and it will expand enough to push on.
When it cools, it locks on. Tough to get off, like when you need to remove driveshaft floor tunnel.
