Plastic mulch layer
Good morning I'm in the planning stages of building a plastic mulch layer on a 3-PT hitch looking for some ideas. Thanks in advance.

Re: Plastic mulch layer
There was a great You Tube video a while back of (I think) a cub laying plastic and covering the edges at the same time. I don't do any gardening, but was fascinated with it! I think if you do a You Tube search you will find it.
Good luck!
Good luck!

I've been thinking of building one as well. I'll let you know when I get some work done, but it'll probably be a month or two. Here are a couple videos that I found useful

That cub one is pretty slick. I like how it uses the rear wheels to hold it down. It would be neat to add hillers to the front so it could do everything in one pass.

Re: Plastic mulch layer
I'm planning one that creates the raised bed with a pair of disc hillers just in front of the plastic. I would be running this through recently tilled soil. I've never used them before, does anyone have any thoughts about whether a small, 16hp 4wd Kubota (B7100) would handle pulling the hillers and mulch layer at the same time? How fast do you need to be moving for the hillers to pile the dirt well?

Re: Plastic mulch layer
depending on soil conditions the Cub can handle this nicely. This is what the Cubs were designed for. The mulch layer doesn't weigh much, tilled soil has little resistance and hilling by itself is not a big deal and doesn't bog down my Cubs. So a second set of hillers behind to cover the edges of the plastic would not add much drag. No need for a Kubota .. Cubs are more than enough.
