Kubota BX2200

Postby Mht » Thu Sep 01, 2022 1:03 pm

I have the opportunity to buy a kubota bx2200 with a 60 inch mower deck. The tractor is an early 2000’s model with about 600 hours on it. Power steering, hydrostatic transmission, four wheel drive. It has mid and rear pto and three point hitch. I currently have a kubota G5200 that I like very much. If anyone has any first hand knowledge of the good, bad, or ugly of this particular tractor I would love to hear it. I’m planning on using it as my primary mowing tractor at my farm. I’m currently mowing with a cub and 42 inch woods deck which does a great job but 6-7 hours of mowing every time I’m at my farm sure eats up my available time to get other things done when I’m only spending every other weekend at my farm

My neighbor has a BX2200 with a mower deck, front bucket, and snow plow that I have used quite a bit (for landscaping/bucket work). It's a very nice machine. I did find that the hydrostatic drive was a little wimpy when pulling a load uphill and backing up a hill after dumping some dirt over the edge. He and I both had 5x10 trailers loaded full with firewood. The BX2200 wouldn't pull up the hill in my back yard but my 1948 Cub didn't have any trouble whatsoever. Overall the BX2200 is a versatile unit with lots of options for attachments. I'd buy one myself except that I can borrow the neighbor's whenever I want.

Thanks for the info. My farm is very hilly and I don’t pull trailers much even with my cub except right around the yard and garden. If I’m pulling any real load the trailer goes behind my David Brown 880 or my old jeep Cherokee. I wish it had a loader on it but I have access to a skid steer if I need to do much dirt moving. It does have a pto driven grass and and leaf vacuum on it that will be real nice in the fall when the big oaks in the yard start dropping leaves.

I have a BX23 (23hp), which comes with loader, mower, and backhoe. A small landscaper unit, it is invaluable around my farm. I also bought the wife an older B7300 with a Caroni tow behind estate mower (5'). We both love it and it's 17 HP. I think the small Kubota's are the best small tractors made, but they are small and have limits. As long as you work within their limits you will be very happy with them.

I have a neighbor with a BX2200, I did his maintenance and repairs for several years. As the others have commented, it’s a nice little tractor with wimpy hydraulics and hydrostatic. Some issues, over the years, have been: hydraulic intake screen full of junk, probably from manufacture. Weak starter circuit, required add on relay. (Actually, a problem with many Kubota’s and other small tractors). Hydraulic hoses with premature leaks. Broken hydrostatic cooling fan (something could have gotten into it). Front hub seals had to be replaced. All this considered, a pretty reliable tractor. Since your primary use will be as a mowing tractor, I think you’ll be quite happy with it. I personally have a B6200 hst, B8200 hst 4wd. And a recently purchased B2100 hst 4wd. We mow with the 6200 and the 2100, we love them both.

Thanks for the responses. Based on my experience with my g5200 and the responses here and a kubota forum I’m definitely purchasing the bx2200. I’m getting the tractor, a 4 ft woods box blade, and an agri supply middle buster for 5500 dollars. I don’t see any negatives to the deal

That sounds like a good deal, to me! That’s going to be a big step up from the G5200!
