So I may have a unique opportunity to acquire one of these. Both are wheatland tractors (no PTO or 3-pt) and both have Front Wheel Assist. Assuming it works out, whichever one I end up with will be relegated to parade duty and preservation. Which do you like best?

I like the 806. But, then, I’m prejudiced toward IH. :D

The MF 97 is a 'rebadged' Minneapolis-Moline G706 with different sheetmetal. I am pretty fond of both of them.

It’s like choosing which son you like best! The M F would be the rarer of the two, the 806 is. our shade of red.

They are both pretty neat machines. I've always thought the M F was built like a tank, but the 806 is an imposing looking tractor too. Sadly somebody butchered the hood on the 806, but you have to look close to notice.

I'll be happy with either one. Unfortunately my wallet isn't thick enough to acquire both. :(

"Sadly somebody butchered the hood on the 806, but you have to look close to notice." Admittedly, you've already tipped your hand. Fairly even in your own mind, but, you noticed it and I'll wager you'll keep on noticing it as long as you own it. Sounds like you're leaning toward the Massey.

Does the International have a torque amplifier? If it has the TA, I would get the IH.

There were 7409 IH 806 built (according to tractordata) Not sure how many diesel vs gas.

There were 3504 diesel Massey Ferguson 97 built. 3903 total gas and diesel.

The wheatland 806 tractors didn't get a TA either. Based on my research, the 806 should have 'INTERNATIONAL' emblems, not the 'FARMALL' ones that are on it. Only the row-crop tractors were branded as Farmall in the 60's.

The Wheatland was a variation of the standard tread tractor and, as such, would have been labeled "International". While most Wheatland tractors were "TA delete", I believe it was available if the buyer chose.
