center blade seems to quit when cutting thick grass. spindle bearing?? replace spindle or repair??

Not familiar with the mower but general comments: Check the the belt sheave on the shaft, check the nut holding the blade on the lower end of the shaft. Generally any side to side slack in the shaft when you try to move it laterally indicates worn bearings. Repair will probably be less expensive than replacing the spindle.
