3 pt tiller for 2n

Postby Rusty red » Thu Jan 27, 2022 9:53 pm

Does anyone here have a tiller that they use with an N series ford? I was out for a drive this evening and saw one down the road from me for sale and was wondering what size my 2n would handle.

I don't know about what size it would handle, but I know my TO20 and 8N run too fast in first to use one. If you have a ford or a fergy with hi-lo it would work well

What you would need is a Sherman Step Down or a Sherman Combo. Most of the Shermans out there are the Sherman Step Up which means a higher gear in all the gears. A Step Down will mean a lower gear in each gear and a Combo is both. There is also a Rupp transmission...I haven't seen many of those for sale and most of the Shermans i've seen are the Step Ups.

a 4' tiller would be fine if you could get the tractor to run about 1mph at working rpm's.
(working RPM's = 540 RPM on the PTO)
184 w/ Creeper & 3-Point
IH 3160a Mower
IH Model 15 Tiller
IH-54 Blade
