Lo-Boy Mower Question

Postby Kyle Delong » Tue Feb 07, 2023 9:11 pm

Hi all, New to the lo-boy number series. Did they ever make a flail mower for the number series loboys? If so how rare are they. Looking for one to go with a local loboy for sale to mow pasture fence lines. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

not unless you modified one to fit, and then I dont think the 9 hp would pull it! They pull way harder than the regular blade type do. go with the l-59 and never look back! I use mine to mow fencerows with and it works fine,---just a slow job and requires the creeper gear in the tractor. with creeper gear you can bush hog fairly easy.

The 9 hp on the drawbar standard Cub handles a Mott flal mower just fine for lawn mowing. Doesn't handle pasture grass well.

Sickle bar mower? Have a 154 that I think was originally government owned. Think it was initially set up for a sickle bar mower.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Not exactly a numbered Cub, but you can see clearly, it can do more than mow short lawn grasses.

I'll just park this here, the video might even be from a member!

Looks like it is doing a good job to me!

I'm pretty certain a bunch of loboys were built for the highway departments with flail mowers.

tires and wheels fit both cubs AND number series???? NOW the 184 gonna get good tires on it when I get it fixed! LOL!
IF you dont take full cut they MIGHT work but who got time to mess with taking 1 foot with a 5 foot mower!!!! Get a bigger tractor!

Does a flail mower eat a lot of horsepower? I thought those turned pretty easily.

Regarding tires and wheels, the axle is the same bolt pattern, but the rims supplied with the numbered series were welded and could not be turned to dish out or dish in. So the only way to widen is with wheel spacers.

About the same as other mowers. You typically have to get the tractor and mower up to speed before you start the mower into the grass.

Have fescue pasture grass which is tough and stringy. If fescue is much taller than lawn grass it gets wound up on the cutter bar and between the knives.
