Best place to buy quality parts for the Lo Boy

Postby jensenracing77 » Sun Nov 07, 2021 7:20 am

I have been using a 184 Lo Boy since the early 80's when I got big enough to run it. We always got our parts from International but they stopped carrying some of the parts and others are simply reticules on price. Will all the junk coming from China and other places these days I was wondering what the best source is for parts now. Getting ready to replace the brakes, clutch, pressure plate, PTO belts, seat and lots of other things.

Hamilton Bobs for sure. Shop around, some parts are not IH Numbered Cub specific. For those, I like the local auto parts store.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Just an update, I got the parts from Hamilton Bobs and very please with the parts so far. Not ran it yet but the fit is fine and appear to be good parts. Thanks for the help.

Most all parts are made in chimna and stuck in brand name boxes! LOL! --- look real close at the code #'s on the packages!

I am not 100% against China parts. You can get good and bad parts from any country. It is just that the averages are against getting quality from China.

I highly recommend Hamilton Bob's. Living close, I have the advantage of visiting their warehouse. Not only parts but also advice and instructions based on a lot of experience tearing down the various models.

Hamilton Bobs for sure, NAPA and Car Quest if you have them around you are also a good place to look.
I have one torn to pieces in the shop now for a minor restoration and Hamilton Bobs is burning up my Master Card.
Stay away from Yesterdays Tractor, i have had nothing but bad luck with the parts i have bought for all of my tractors for the last couple years now, i don't know what happened with them.

Be sure to check the splines on the drive shaft. mine wore where the clutch disk rides and got to the point where the disk wouldn't move forward when the pedal was depressed. Also replace the throw out bearing as it is a cheap part, but somewhat difficult to replace. Mostly good experience with Hamilton Bob. Did get a drive shaft where the 5/16" hole in the front was drilled off center and the bolt wouldn't go in. They didn't want to replace it, said to use a 1/4" bolt. Had my local machine shop drill out the drive shaft and collar to 3/8" and now have a perfect fit.

HamiltonBobs and Steiner have done well. I will just echo another user to not expect the same quality of fit and use as the 1970 version of what you are buying today. Especially the more complicated parts like a clutch and all it’s pieces. They are knock offs and do work but you may have to make them fit. Like a distributor cap. It looks the same feels the same and yet it is a sloppy fit. I mean you can’t have a sloppy cap. All in all it has been a fun adventure for a hobby tractor. Drew.

I have used Hamilton Bob's numerous times. They have a great website, can be found on Amazon, and sell quite a few items new and used on eBay. They have really cornered the market and we're super helpful when I had questions about a shipment.
