154 hydraulic suction line

Postby Challenger1973 » Thu Jul 18, 2019 6:46 pm

How is the hydraulic suction line coming from the bottom of the rear differential attached? Does it screw in the housing? Noticed mine is leaking from that area. I would like to remove and seal the connections. Thanks for your help.

My parts book says flair fittings.

Don't really know, never removed mine.
I have an excuse. CRS.

It’s a npt thread into the tranny case. (National pipe taper) In some applications this hole is a drain plug. Then a flaired fitting is screwed in and the tubing goes from there. If you need the tubing pre made I purchased a complete 154 tractors tubing from hamiltonbobscubs.

For some reason I remember a tee being on the tubing there. They had a suction and return on the same tubing. I think the design changed and they put the return line on the tranny shifter cover.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

FWIW that particular SS line has compression fitting and it always leaks a tad. Generally, I was under the tractor with the deck removed, trying to get it to seal. There isn't enough line for a do over and I never bought or made a new line. So it does drip during use-just a little. That requires me to add some fresh fluid before the next excursion. I can't say there is anything positive about a leak except new HyTran or equivalent ...nope. It is still wrong.

Cutting the tubing and adding a piece of hydraulic hose with four hose clamps will work so you can fix the leaky fitting. Are you sure it’s a compression fitting. I think it’s a Parker fitting with the tapered double wall flared nut.

You have to be right on this. Double flare IIRC . I didn't have the means or time when it was happening. Thought I had it done but still leaks a tad. There are some bends in the line which I stretched to give more "purchase" or pressure towards the fitting while checking alignment. Will still need a new fitting someday.
