Ads appearing on pages

Postby Lt.Mike » Fri Apr 02, 2021 4:29 pm

Does anyone revue the ads before they get attached as a pop up on the forum pages.
Some of the ones I’ve been seeing are pretty sketchy if not down right tacky. I wouldn’t call it “R” rated but it’s something I wouldn’t want a kid seeing. This kinda stuff doesn’t mesh well with the forum or people here.
The latest is a dead fish on a hook hanging from under a woman’s skirt between her legs. It’s from “awesome jelly “ and is titled “disturbing ads they would never run today”.
You know, I think they just did.

It’s coming up on an apple. Not sure what I can turn off with this.

So far I have not seen any racey ads on the forum
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Lol!

I feel the same as Mike, I too have saw the "fish" ad!

Most of what I always see is clothing ads with barely clothed women...... Swim wear, pajamas, dresses......

I usually always have my cookies blocked and never buy things online! Lol

The only ads I ever see here are the site sponsor links at the bottom of the page.

I use firefox and have pop ups disabled. Generally though I believe it notifies me when it blocks a pop up and I haven't seen that.

I use a more advanced trick to block annoying ads that play inside a page. When that works I essentially end up with a hole in the page that says the content can't be located. I don't see that happening here either.

The only time I've ever had sketchy pop up ads anywhere is when there was a piece of malware attached to my browser and then it happened on every page I loaded.

I think it's possible you have some sort of malware or perhaps Apple is adding the ads to your browsing.

In your shoes I'd be tempted to try a different browser.

I use an app called AdGuard on my iPhone and iPad. Works well for me.

In a similar discussion long ago, Dennis posted:

As Bigdog says, these ads provide funding to help maintain this site and keep it FREE. As always, support our sponsors (TM, Ralph, and KubKraft), as well as our Google Adsense advertisers.

Thanks,

The ads should only be coming through Google Adsense and be reasonably respectable. As far as I know, this is still accurate. If you are seeing pop-ups of anything else that doesn't fit in with what he said, you probably have something (like a virus) going on on your machine. When comparing what is seen with other members, keep in mind that logging in changes what you see.

The google ads served are based on the members advertising profile with google adsense. I block "explicit" categories (dating/reproduction/etc) from the site. If you personally find an ad offensive, in the upper right corner of the ad is an "AdChoices" triangle & X. Clicking on those will give you several options on how ads are served to you. Please give that a try -- google needs your feedback too.

Popups, sound like malware on your computer/browser. I personally limit browser extensions to an essential one or two because many of those are easily compromised by hackers - google/ddg it.

I haven't seen the ad in question but do not wait for the ads to load before scrolling down. Ads only appear if I'm using Edge. If using Chrome the ads do not appear. I do use an ad blocker for what little it seems to be worth. Ads also appear in You tube if using Edge but not if using Chrome. But video jute box runs better on Edge. So???????????????? :surrender:

I've tried this, but the ads keep reappearing.

After I read this post and the suggestions, I did as suggested with positive results. I went at it for a couple of days. I figured I didn't get here in one day so it would take several days to get rid of the ads. It worked so far. If I see an objectionable one to me I mark it. Good luck
