140 Farmall Tractor Power Take Off (PTO)

Postby fitzchavis » Sun Aug 14, 2022 2:08 pm

I have a farmall 140 tractor and would like to equip it with a PTO water pump. Could anyone answer the following questions?

1. How many RPM's can the 140 tractor PTO shaft deliver?
2. Is there a standard size PTO pump typically used on a 140 farmall tractor?

Thanks,
FC

1. It is rated at 541 rpm, can maybe run a bit over at full engine speed. If you have a tach, it should be marked for 541 rpm.
2. There should be plenty of pumps available. Choose one based on your need. Most of them have a straight keyed input shaft and are attached to the PTO with an adapter coupling. A larger pump may require a belt or chain drive, which would also allow you to change operating speed to whatever is needed. If you are looking for maximum possible pumping capacity, look at the horsepower requirements of the pumps you consider. The tractor has 24 belt hp, which is all available for the pump if you just have it stationary running the pump.
