I went off the deep end and brought home another Cadet this week. A 1988 model 1806, the last and largest manual trans Cub Cadet made. It has the creeper gearbox so it's, theoretically, a 6 speed. It also has what appears to be a NF 3-pt hitch adapted to fit. It runs and drives but has issues so it'll sit a while until I have some time to diagnose everything.

Thats slick.
Since this ia a MTD model, was they still using the regular Cub transmission like pre MTD?

Hope you don't mind me poking my nose in here, but from what I know, MTD used up all the leftover IH parts (i.e. cast iron transmissions, gears, etc.) by the early 80's (someone correct me if I'm wrong). I had a 1983 CCC 782 that had a cast iron tranny.
Radioguy41-- Nice haul on the 1806. Sounds like a unique gearing setup. Would be good for tilling, plowing, or anything else in the garden.
Congrats!

Re: Got another one
Thanks. After massaging it this morning it appears there are two issues, one of which may or may not be major. There is no compression on the left side cylinder and the driveshaft\clutch has issues. I'm hoping it's just a stuck valve (it was parked outside for sometime and not run and it spits thru the carb). Not sure yet how I want to attack that.

Re: Got another one
I was able to free up the stuck valve so it's on to the driveshaft\clutch issue.

Re: Got another one
Found the clutch problem. Bent plate, bolt instead of pin, broken discs, worn pivot pin, and off-center throwout bearing and shaft.

Re: Got another one
Finally got the driveshaft out. All 3 pins in the drive plate were replaced with bolts. All 3 are bent. All 3 holes in the clutch disk were destroyed by the threads on the bolts. Missing pilot bushing. The front of the shaft is scoured. Oh joy!

It's back together and runs and drives now. Next problem, the oil light blinks.
