float adjustment?

1945 H Starts and runs fine IF choke is pulled 1/3 - 1/2 out! Am I correct in my thinking that the float setting is too low? Carb has been rebuilt twice by "experienced" people (one the IH shop). Other than that runs and pulls well for sitting for 15 years outside!!

It may also be a restriction in the fuel supply.

I doubt that your float level has changed, on it’s own. It’s more likely a blocked passage within the carb. or fuel supply issue, as Don mentioned.

A second question- would a hole in the exhaust manifold affect the carburetor adjustment??

It wouldn’t affect the adjustment, but it would affect the performance if it was on the intake side.

It depends, if the hole real large, it may effect performance. Is it rusted through? That was not unusual on those. Good used ones are very hard to find and new ones are a bit pricey.

Not sure where the hole is you mentioned, but just wanted to make sure you knew there is SUPPOSED to be a hole in the lower forward area of the exhaust manifold. Often it is filled with dirt and rust, so you don't know it's there. Some folks think it is not supposed to be there, and put a screw in to fill it.

I think it probably does. It would have it for the same reason a Cub does. That said, I don't think I have ever actually seen one.

I really don’t know, I’ve never looked for one. I put an aftermarket replacement on the neighbors H ,a couple years ago, and I’m sure it did not have one. The original was too far gone to tell if it had one.
