No. 8 Little Genius 2-12 Plow

Postby T-Mo » Mon Oct 05, 2020 8:07 am

It looks like I'll be getting a No. 8 Little Genius plow, for free. I also just pick up a 1949 C, that I may use to pull this plow. From the literature I found, a C is a 2 bottom plow when it's 12 inch plows, or a one bottom plow. Now I know soil conditions and other conditions will come into play when determining what a tractor will pull, but since the plow is free....

Anyone know the length of a No. 8 Little Genius 2 bottom plow? I will drive a hour one way to get it, and I'm planning on bringing my 12 foot trailer, which I'm sure the plow will fit on, but wanted to be sure. I know they're not light.

I think your 12' trailer will work fine.

I will fit fine. The tongue will fold back towards the rest of the plow. Need something to hold the tongue in place when folded back.

Guessing, plow weighs 600 - 700 lbs, based on experience picking up a JD 2-14 bottom plow trailer plow with a skidsteer.
I have an excuse. CRS.

I hauled a 2-14 JD trip plow on 6X12 trailer with plenty of room left over.

A 2-12 model 8 plow is just shy of 900 pounds.

Per the 1949 Farm Products book, the No. 8 2-12 weighs 873 lbs.

I got it home last night with no problems. The guy had an Allis Chalmers loader tractor and we loaded it onto my trailer that way. It has a flat tire and I have to take a look at the clutch mechanism for the trip rope part.
