Another 50+ degree day today, so got home after work and finished wire wheeling down the fan. Then shot some primer on most of that assembly as well as the three lights and the ammeter box.

Re: New to Me Farmall AV
Started working on the front hood/grille yesterday. The grille is in fair shape overall.
Got a little cancer going on down on the underside.
Biggest challenge was removing the clips that held on the screen. Discovered they were spot welded in place. Ugh! Had to remove them using a Dremel and an old (sharp) wood chisel and hammer. Finally got them off.
Now for readjusting, aligning and straightening the bars and overall shape of the grille.

Re: New to Me Farmall AV
Don't know if you remember what mine looked like before I started working on it, but here are a few photos that prove it CAN be brought back to life!
I had to separate the top and bottom, as well, plus the center strip for the screen. Everything was spot welded, so required some repairs from that.
This tool set was WELL worth the price!! Available on eBay:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Farmall-A-B-C-Super-A-B-C-Grille-Grill-Tool-International-Harvester/143452608358?hash=item2166711766:g:KFoAAMXQcVNQ664o
The pieces did get peened over a bit from the extensive use, but I simply ground the edges off.

The entire tractor was finished, and I was STILL working on that grill!!
But I think the time paid off:
And with the quality work YOU do, I know yours will look even better!! Have fun!?

Wow! I forgot how nice that turned out. Yours appears to have been in worse shape than mine.
Thanks for the link to the grille forms. Have considered getting set of those in the past.
Also, thanks for sharing your work.

Re: New to Me Farmall AV
You wouldn't be sorry getting the set. Just make sure it is for your tractor. I would give/loan you my set, but it went to another forum member. As I was advised by some knowledgable forum members...the key to success is patience and to remember...tap, tap, tap, tap...!

Re: New to Me Farmall AV
I’ve got those grille tools on my Christmas list. If Santa doesn’t come through I plan to get them myself after the holidays. I’ve got three grills to restore.
Dale do the tools for the A have any use with a Cub nine bar grill? ( I’m guessing no)

Re: New to Me Farmall AV
They make a separate tool for the Cub, I think the ribs may be narrower.

I'm pretty sure that is the case...otherwise I would have kept them.

My '44 B could use some grille work also. But, I doubt if I will want to make it show/parade ready, as it has a loader on it and will see work.

Stanton, that looks like a B grille, based on the bottom section. It might not fit right.

I thought the "A" and the "B" grilles were the same? No?

Re: New to Me Farmall AV
Did you mean to say a 'C' grill? I noticed that it doesn't have the side cut out to clear the steering box.

Re: New to Me Farmall AV
I agree, "B" grille. Wrong bottom cut-outs for an "A", wrong emblem for a "C".

The bottom on the A/Super A/Super AV grilles is cut differently, it's not symmetrical from right to left to allow for the steering box.
