What is the best method to remove the slop out of the throttle linkage, have to go about half way before any throttle is increased?

You can start by lubricating all the linkage pivot points and making sure that they move freely.

are the battery box lid and sides in place?, have seen throttle jump a lot without those as they support the steering column
