This is the first time in 15-20 years I was able to get to cut this part of the property. From walking it in the winter I knew there were a lot of down trees and flood debris and some large rocks
I decided to put my A-60 grader blade on to protect the front and to help if I ran into a log. It worked great. I got into a tight area that had a lot of logs. With with mower, I was not able to back up much so I dropped the blade to just off the ground and was able to push the logs out of the way.
This reed grass was very intimidating. I was cutting from the edge. After a while, the blade gave me some confidence to do a few totally blind passes with reeds on three sides.
I have had this Woods 60-4 for several years but this is the first season I worked on it and got it ready to cut. I got it for this part of the properity.

I will try to identify it. I just look it up and phragmites It is nonnative and considered invasive.

Re: Cutting really high grass with help from A-60 grader blade
I have the phrags all around the perimeter of my yard near the salt marsh...They are incredibly difficult to keep in check...They seem to send out roots that shoot up a new reed constantly. I can mow and they will send up more shoots within 2 weeks. That is a nice hogger...I have the 6 foot Cadet version and it is a beast.

Re: Cutting really high grass with help from A-60 grader blade
My wife and I have been working on removing nonnatives at our home and I have been working on it on my family property.
Phragmites are considered invasive and have a rhizome system like other grasses and bamboo. I have read repeat cutting over time will reduce them.

Mechanical methods do not work. Use glyphosate. But, don’t tell the EPA I said that.

I would not say that!
I had a big area of that stuff when I bought my land.
After deciding to plant vegetables in that area, each time I would plow, the roots would get exposed, and I would pick them out and burn them.
After a few years of that it was gone.
Must have been some late bloomin seeds because the past few years I notice a few stalks pushing up, but now I am haying that area and it gets cut and baled up!
On a side note, I got another area (never done anything to get rid of it) where the stuff grows out back that I cut and bale, and the cows go crazy, they love eating that stuff!

Yes it is an A-60 blade for the A-140 series of IH tractors.
I also have a lot of poison hemlock this year. We had a very mild winter I wonder if that is why.
