140 Engine fit into 130?

Postby 1978cub » Fri Dec 03, 2021 9:34 am

Does anyone know if a 140 engine will fit into a 130? Visibly inspecting the engine I did notice the water pump is is a different location however the rest looks similar.

While I never done the swap it should fit fine.

Either one is a c123 engine

Should be the same as a super c, 200 and 230 also

For anything I know about specifics of the 140, both ends of the engine will bolt up to the adjacent housings. However, the water pump differences you noted may be a bigger problem than it looks. For the outlet hose, can you use the 140 outlet elbow? If so, does it use the same diameter hose or will you need to find one with different sizes on each end? Will the two ends line up for a straight hose? A 140 pump will require the 140 fan. Will it work with the 130 radiator and shroud? At the bottom, it looks like the 140 pieces will go in place until (again) the hose. The book lists them as different diameters. So back to the same problem with the upper.

Bottom line, I don't know what problems you may run into. But unless somebody responds that has been through it, you have a bunch of homework to do before you can expect it to work.

I have a 130 and 140 and there are a lot of small differences in the engine area. I agree with Jim that it may be as straightforward as it appears or as easy as swapping cub engines. They are all the c-123 but in the manuals, there are a lot of different parts and configurations for the engine. The c-123 was used in the bulldozer.

I am sure you could overcome all of the issues with time and money. the question is - is it worth it? How bad is the 140 that you want to make it an engine donor? and what is wrong with the 130 engine?

The late 140 engine with automotive style water pump will need the radiator to match out of late 140. It also needs the reduced upper radiator hose, only the Genuine IH will fit, all of the aftermarket hoses are wrong size on one end. The valve cover does not have a tall filler neck, and instead just has a short vent. A 240 radiator might also work in the application, but I have never tried.

Thanks After all that feedback it does not look like it would be a good idea to switch.

I need one. If you decide to get rid of it I would be interested.
