Where is the engine serial number location international c-123 for the 140?

The service manual lists different valve adjustment for the intake ( 0.014) and exhaust ( 0.020) for engine sn 95097 and above.

Below that it is 0.014 for both.

Upper right corner of the block, close to the distributor. It'll be stamped in a square area there.

When IH sold a whole replacement engine, did it have a serial number or did they leave it un-numbered?

I believe a whole engine was normally given a serial number. There are some situations where it is hard to make sense given that answer. So I don't know if it was always true.
