I couldn't get the Farmall A to fire up yesterday. I pulled the plugs and cleaned them up in the bead blaster and installed them this morning. I still had a heck of a time getting it running, but after cranking(hand crank) for 15-20 minutes it finally chugged to life. It kept wanting to flood from a leaky needle and seat so I brought it home and pulled the carb. Found lots of green goober and rust so I pulled it down, bead blasted, and reassembled it. It started on the second crank after I installed it. I got to thinking when I last opened up the carb and it s been 14-15 years ago.

Explains why the switched from cast iron carb to pot metal. You got me thinking now......maybe I should pull my cast iron carb on my A and check it. Thanks for posting.

Checked my carb and it looked clean inside, no rust. I had run some Sea Foam thru it and then drained the bowl before I put it away in the shed. Stuff seems to be doing the job. Of course I probably just jinxed myself now.

Good to here. We had one barrel of farm fuel that didn't get treated last year which may be what's causing the trouble.

Not sure what you are asking about. There are six pictures can you tell me which number 1-6 top to bottom?

Re: Farmall A carb cleanup
The fifth picture from the top. I think the top one is the idle/air adjustment and the bottom towards the front is the fuel adjustment? Looking for the settings of each. I have read the top is one turn out from the seat and the front is 1.5 turns from the seat. But then again I have heard 2.5 to four turns out for that one.
Many thanks
