My Intro...
Hello, I was just handed-down a (I believe) is a 1970's era Farmall 504 due to the outside labels on the front fender area of the tractor (Pix to come). My step-father passed away several months back, and with the air getting warmer. I think its time to see if i can drive this thing. I know the thing works, last seen my step father driving it just under a year ago. Got the battery charged up, but to be honest. I've never drivin a tractor this big/old. I understand how PTO works by moving the RPMs to the back drive-shaft(when engaged). So i have some basic understanding of some of the logistics of the machine. However, As I said above I never drove one this big. I had worked with my brother on some property of his, mowing with a newer John Deer. I cant drive a stick " due to limited exposure". I have ran a truck with manual mostly in first and reverse when hauling wood in the bed. I assume that's all I'll be doing with this tractor for the first few trials. Once i get the hang of driving it. I will be needing to mow a few paths to get around on the property here, and will need to be able to climb some 30 degree hills about 30 to 50 feet. So I know i'll be needing to further my experience and hoping to enjoy that here. The hard-knocks and all!!!

Re: My Intro...
Aprox. I havent been out in the back part for almost 10 years. Maybe might be a little fish tale. could be between 20 ish "to 30" it is a decent incline, but its make-able. and thanks for the warning I wont be trying to make that until next year, or the one after. I still have to walk down and take out any trees more than 4 inches or so

Welcome to the Forum! Take some time and read through a few threads to acquaint yourself with the Forum:
I'd echo Jim on not driving your tractor on any hillside with a "decent incline" to it. The potential for a rollover accident are too great and will cause serious harm or death to the driver.
We’d encourage you to take the Safety Test located in the Safety Forum: http://farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=68084
Take some pictures of your tractor and post them, we’d like to see it.

Re: My Intro...
Welcome!
Perhaps start with an owner (operator) manual for your tractor. Back in the late 40's and 50's, nobody had any experience driving a large tractor. The manuals were written for a new user in mind. If you cannot download a manual for your tractor from this site, consider purchasing a set from Binder Books. They reprint the original manuals.
