Hi,
Here is some help with replacing the fan and generator belts. It tells how in the owner's manual.
Here are 2 pages, there is some info on the 2nd page about the generator belt. Also info about oiling the fan hub, you should oil it, if you haven't.
In the pic, C is the 6 sided place right next to the pulley, you put a wrench on there, mine is 13/16 inch. Do not turn the nut in the slots at the rear of the shaft with a wrench.
Case IH might have the wiring harness. Other guys here probably know places to buy them. :)

Depending on what you have, you might secure it to the rod that operates the rear lift. I used 2 boards bolted to the implement mount points on either side with another one for a shelf between them. It's not pretty but that's not the objective.

Thanks Guys. I feel stupid for not see the belt replacement in the manual.

I did not think about using "clamp" set up.

Now about the wiring harness, I think as of now I may try to build it myself, so I need to know what gauge wire I will need?

I have a bracket on my pony tank and just use vice grips to clamp it to the touch control, similar to ones in the post (a fuel shut-off on the tank is a real good idea). Porch Electric makes a nice wiring harness, all wires correct gauge and length and the ends soldered and marked, there are a couple others available at a similar cost (Steiner, Brillman or IH dealer as well I believe), good investment for another 40 years of use.

Good luck,
David

I purchased a replacement harness from Porch Electric, and was impressed with both the product and the service support.

Brillman is also a highly recommended source.

On the other hand, the harness is not complicated, and if you have the time should be easy to replicate.

In addition to Glen's warning not to try turning the nut behind the "ears" on the front cover I would recommend that you actually put a wrench on that nut to hold it stationary. If the fan is on really tightly, that nut still might turn agains the ears with enough force to break one. BTDT.

Just wandered in and saw this post. Glad to see another '49 out there! Can't wait to see pictures to compare to what I've got because some of mine is from newer models as well like the hood and grille.

Right now it looks pretty bad, I have taken a few photos that I intend to post when I get it running. Eventually I will need to pain her. Right now I can tell you that, with the exception of items that are normally replace when the maintenance has been done, the exhaust pipe and muffler. she is original.

I think there might be a few more '49's around :D since '49 is the second highest Cub production year (over 41,000 built) behind '48 (with over 46,000 built).

If you go to Rudi's manuals above (thanks Rudi :{_}: ) scroll down to "Cub Production information" then "Cub Production Spreadsheets" from Bill Doebler (GitTractorman) you'll find a list of how many Cubs were produced each year. Or you can click this:
http://www.cleancomputes.com/Cub/Cub%20Production%20Information/Cub%20Production%20SpreadSheets/gitractorman's%20Cub%20Production%20Spreadsheet-01.jpg

Incidentally, there are later versions of Raymond Durban's Cub Database (available as a sticky the very first listing in this forum) than what is linked to in Rudi's manuals.

It has bee a while since I had time to work on my Cub, but now I am back.

I have a new set of wire I purchased from Porch Electric, but the colors do not match the ones on my 49 Cub.

Do you have a downloadable 6 volt positive ground battery ignition schematic?

I have a new set of wire I purchased from Porch Electric, but the colors do not match the ones on my 49 Cub. I have tried unsuccessfully to get a reply from Porch regarding the difference in color. The first obvious difference is the large yellow wire. I just wish they would respond and tell me which wire is which. The wiring diagrams I have found seem simple enough but I am hesitant removing wire when I am not sure which one to replace it with. Any help is appreciated. The old wires are pretty bad.

Here's a link to a discussion in which Bill posted a wiring diagram for a 6V positive ground system. http://farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=71561
Is that what you need? There's loads of info in the links above and in the "How To" section should you want to find something specific.

You should be able to sort the wires out by length. Are you trying to identify the wires in the main harness or the individual wires not in the harness? The 1949 version of the main harness only has 4 wires. Does your tractor still have a magneto and generator or have there been some conversions?

If you post a picture of what you have, we may be able to sort it out.

Thanks for the link. Please tell me how to get to the "How To" section?
