Re: Flanged bushing for steering box
TT-1800 is quite a bit smaller on OD I have 1-1/8 ID and 2-1/4 OD. This one is a little smaller and a little bigger so I think it is a good place to start if one has access to a lathe.

Re: Flanged bushing for steering box
I know this is an older thread, but I was referred to it by a forum member. I was able to order all three of the steering bushings from bronzebushings.com. I went ahead and ordered two sets just so I can have an extra set on hand. The price can't be beat. I ordered two sets with shipping that come to less than the price of one upper bushing from the other suppliers I have checked with.

Re: Flanged bushing for steering box
I finally got to finish up the cub's steering gear rebuild yesterday. I used the bushings and thrust washer that I listed in the previous post.
The lip on the lower bushing was about a quarter inch smaller than the original, but fit perfectly into the steering base. The gear shaft also fit into the lower bushing like I thought it should. It was a snug fit but would turn freely with just a tad bit of resistance.
The thrust washer also fit just right, but was a little smaller diameter than the factory original. I don't really see where this would make a difference as it was sufficient to competely cover the area between the steering arm and housing.
The upper bushing was the one that gave me some work. It didn't want to fit up in the bolster, so I had to modify it. It was not a split bushing like the originals are, so I split it myself by cutting it with a hack saw. Then, after I installed it in the bolster, I inserted the shaft into it. The upper part of the shaft would fit, but it was too tight and was binding. So to fix that problem, I took emery cloth and worked the upper shaft until it would go into the bushing snug but would not bind up. (My shaft was pitted from rust damage so it's possible that was the reason for the binding)
I reassembled everything and took the tractor for a good long test drive, and even rode it out on the highway, and the steering is great now! It doesn't wonder on the road at all now, and it went from a quarter-turn of free play to almost none. It has maybe ten degrees of play, if that. And, that free play is from the worm gear on the steering wheel rod. That gear was also pretty worn, but it'll just have to do.
All in all, I am very pleased with how the steering rebuild has turned out. It's much better than I hoped for!
Thanks to everyone for passing on this bit of information. It helped tremendously for my budget, and for my tractor!

Ben thank for this I have steering projects coming up. Did you also replace the steering shaft thrust washers 350896R2 and 350897R2? If so do you have the cross numbers to purchase than on bronzebushings.com?
When you only have 9 horsepower you need to know the names of all of the ponies!

Re: Flanged bushing for steering box
No, I did not replace those. I only replaced the three I listed. Good luck with your projects. I didn't need to replace the other items as they were in pretty good shape.

Re: Flanged bushing for steering box
I was able to find shaft thrust washers 350896R2 and 350897R2.
I asked a machinist at work to take the dimensions and here they are
I looked quickly on http://www.bronzebushings.com/ and mcmaster.com and could not find a match. The OEM sources on 350897R2 is $7.50 but
350896R2 are $100 Any ideas on a source on the upper washer? I need two more

Re: Flanged bushing for steering box
Last time I had one that needed to be tightened up, I put a thin washer behind the lower washer. Something similar to this:

Re: Flanged bushing for steering box
Ron at TM has 350896R2 NOS the larger upper washes but they are not on the website. He sounded as if he was going to make both the upper and lower sometime in the future.

Re: Flanged bushing for steering box
I guess this comment is for Jim Becker. Is there a way to add the 3 part numbers and the supplier for those 3 bushings to the bearing and spares list? The copy I look at was updated last in 06 I believe. I live in Nova Scotia and try to by most of my spares from TM, but like bearings, these bushing prices are just so much more competitive than OEM. As long as they don't say China I'm happy

My bad I guess Ingram. Thought the link was from Farmallcub.com. Maybe we can somehow start a place on our site to keep this sort of thing together. Wish I was more computer savvy.

Re: Flanged bushing for steering box
The intent of the parts list in the FAQ was to provide numbers of tune-up parts and a few common parts that could typically be found quickly, locally when the need came up. Parts that need to be mail ordered or reworked to use are beyond the original scope. Of course, we now have this site where things like this thread can be found via a simple search. These numbers could be included in a steering overhaul how-to on here.
It has been 10 years since the FAQ was updated. After this came up, I tried to log into that site and found I can't get on. I would have to contact Spencer to get either get on the system or have him do the update.
