Original Hose Clamps 1948
In 1948 would an F-Cub have used worm-drive or Wittek hose clamps?

This should qualify as the answer:
I assume these are Wittek Hose Clamps. I knew them as Tower Clamps.

I believe Wittek was the brand or manufacturer and "tower" was the style or design.

Nothing silly. This question has been around for awhile every now and then. These are hard to find and expensive when you do.

Re: Original Hose Clamps 1948
Yup - sure thing TM has them that's what started my question. The tower clamps are just over double the cost of the worm drive $23 and $48. Perhaps I'm getting just a bit too crazy on this restoration. I just want it to be as close to what it was when Dad purchased it.

Re: Original Hose Clamps 1948
Since you want to make it as close to what it was when your Dad bought it, go with the tower clamps. I am always keeping an eye out for them, and will buy them when I see them. I prefer the originals to the new worm drive. Quality is much better to my mind. So no, it isn't over the top to want them. Far better to spend a bit more and be happy than to economize and then wish you hadn't.

The tower clamps were original on most of the old tractors, but i hate working with those things with a passion.

Ditto. I had them on my first car, a '51 Plymouth and was never able to get them to release. Had to cut every of them off.

Re: Original Hose Clamps 1948
I wish I had known you were looking for them.... I was just in the hose clamp bin looking for a way to seal the fuel tank on the trip to fetch my new truck bed (then on to Cecil's). (Pieces of Cub front inner tube and hose clamps did the trick.) I have a handful of those clamps (both red and yeller), don't care that they are original.... I hate working with them and they usually get replaced.
Interesting note, when I was shopping for new clamps on the truck fuel lines I found 'Ideal' brand are still made in the USA!
