Rear Wheels with problem

Postby Jeff Silvey » Fri Feb 22, 2008 8:20 am

Son way playing this morning (seat time). I thought I heard something when he turn in the driveway pushing snow I thought it was inside the housing. I was going to look at it when he was done. He went up & down the town street just playing. He motioned me out side said there's something wrong with the left rear wheel. I looked one nut (not me) had came off the disc pan at the rim one other one had came loose. I have been plowing (snow & field) with this tractor for almost a year since I took the wheel off to repair the bull gear pan gasket. Hope I haven't confused anyone.
It just to show you that we all need to keep track on keeping everything tight. We need to safe with playing with are toys.

Jeff - it's real tempting, but I'm resisting the urge to comment on loose nuts at the wheel because this is indeed an important message. It's real easy to overlook routine maintenance items because "It was OK the last time I checked it." It looks like you found a potentially serious problem before someone got hurt.
Thanks for the reminder!

With my snow plow machines i always check the bolts often. With all the vibration going on something will or can come loose often. There's a lot more force put on everything. I was impressed with my little 8.3 AG tires when cultivating those little sneakers do bite.

I'm sure when i add my tool box on after the restoration there will be plenty of extra nuts and bolts in plastic bags just for this reason. Just a few to besafe so i can repair it on the spot.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

I swapped mine around to get the spacing I wanted. Maybe it is time for a little checkup.

Every so often I hear a rear wheel creaking noise. With rear wheel weights there are 13 bolts per wheel so it takes some time to tighten them all up. I find that it is usually it is the 4 wheel center bolts (the same bolt that you pictured) or the wheel weights have worked their way a little loose.
