Dumb Idea
How about some more unconventional thinking....how about rotating the engine with the out put to the front and adapt the driveshaft to pulley side with clutch. Then reverse the differential carrier...now the pto turns in the convential orientation too!

Hmmm...
OW! My brain, my brain.
Actually I'm still thinking of the Kubota engine. I originally was planning on the 722 engine, but after reseasrching I'm looking at the 1105. It is only a couple of HP more, but the block is a couple of inches longer(still shorter than the C-60) but develops it's HP at 3000 rpm instead of 3600 rpm. According to my measurements there's room to move the starter to the right side with plenty of clearance from the injector pump. I took the measurements from my little brothers Kubota tractor.
Now I just need to find an engine I can afford. I bought another Cub, a '67 model for mowing, so now I have time to play with the other one.

Yes, the Kubotas to have a hydraulic pump. The one on my brothers tractor is belt driven on the front, I've also seen them with one on the back of the injector pump. I don't know the operating pressure, but it would be a simple matter to put a bypass regulator in the system if needed.

Well the fats in the fire now, time to put up or shut up, or what ever you want to say. I found a Kubota D905 for sale locally and I made the plunge and bought it. Probably wont get around to trying to shoehorn it in the Cub before next winter thought, to many projects already scheduled for this summer. Clock is ticking.

Re: Diesel Cub?
First off this is on a '58 Farmall Cub with the c 60 engine. I checked and the picture I have is accurate for mounting the starter on the right side confirmed by Kubota. The engine I have is off a Ransom reel type mower that fell off a service truck and broke the transaxle. Mounting it on the right would allow the starter(gear drive) to mesh with the flywheel if the teeth can be matched, that's why I don't want to use a spacer on the crank if I don't have too. I really need to get the tractor back home so I can break it down and compare parts. I'm hoping I can make some kind special arraignment with a homemade pilot bushing to compensate for the short transmission shaft approx 1.25 to 1.5 inches. Maybe redrill the cub flywheel and a flange type of piilot bushing? That would also prevent having to change the clutch linkage.

I'm Gary will be along with some tips on how he did his.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.
